I did the Sunday 4 pm bilingual 90 min 26 and 2 class. While doing my back bend, I’m going back and back for the second time. I realized that my high school math teacher sitting next to me was looking at me and had me laughing so hard that I tweaked my lower back a little. After class, he told me he was surprised to see me do that pose. Yes, high school Math teacher. 2 months ago, I was in the back warming up and conversing with a female yogi when this guy sat next to me. As he was laying his mat and putting his coconut water in the side, I told myself, I know this guy from somewhere. I took the shot at asking him to excuse me, sir. Were you a math teacher at a high school? He said, yes, I was im retiring now. I told him you were my math teacher. He asked for my name, and he remembered. We hugged each other, and I apologized to him. I was a good student and never disrespected him. I was one of those students that had an ego. I did thank him for teaching me math. Out of respect, I still call him by his last name. He sometimes gets me in trouble with the yoga instructor while lying down in the Savasana. He will whisper something funny, and I will laugh so loud. Funny how things turn around. After Savasana. I was fatigued; it must have been because I did not have anything to eat. I was scheduled to do the next class, which was a 90 min full moon yin class. The course was sold out, and I did not move from the spot I was at.
While doing the yin class, we practiced more breathwork with light stretching, but I was lying on my back, sleeping most of the time. I was just so tired; the mood was right, it smelled good, and the music was low. Everything was perfect. My old math teacher was doing a great job next to me. After that, yin had some seltzer water and purchased some oatmeal, strawberries, and banana for tomorrow’s breakfast. I usually wake up at 5 am or even before that to start my day. Even if I come late, which is rarely, I will have some breakfast today. I had some oatmeal. Almond milk oats, a pinch of cinnamon, cut some banana strawberries scramble some egg whites through some onions, a bit of sea salt, not some peppers, and spinach, which would have been great but next time. My choice of drink was a can of seltzer water. While eating and waiting for the food to digest in my stomach, I was reading and watching videos on the first posture, Pranayama, which is good for the lungs and respiratory system.
I was mocking the practice to see what I could do better. To do better, I have to follow the flow of my breathing and the movement of my shoulders and arm and notice a lot of my tension is in my Trapezius, Deltoid, Pectoralis, and also in my shoulder blade. I feel that burn. I did the 9 am 90 min 26 and 2 classes, which was an upgrade. I focused on my breathing and arm movement but felt the shoulder burn with no pain. Before writing this blog, my shoulder used to burn badly, but with regular exercise, the shoulder burn has been decreasing. I did the 6 pm vinyasa class. Before class, I usually warm up by using a strap and stretching out my shoulder. I surpassed my expectation with my body flow. Every month there is usually a theme. This month, it was chaturanga. Work out our core. Waking up at 4::30 am to do 6 am yoga classes takes work. It’s warm in your apartment and smells like lavender essential oil conformable sheets and bed. To be excellent in all aspects of life. I always try to be better than yesterday. But once you wake up and brush your teeth, you do dont feel so tired. It is just the beginning stages of waking up.
As soon as I entered that hot room, I instantly felt soreness throughout my lower back, shoulders, and hamstrings plus, I was a little tired, which was not a good combination. I was so sore and exhausted after the eagle pose I just instantly went to the floor and called in a day for my practice. I worked on little adjustments during each posture, but my body needed rest. After the class, I explained to the instructor that my body was sore, and he gave me some great information on recovering. I went home and call it a day until it was time for me to go to work. lol
Just finished reading your Post, and you had me laughing this early Thursday morning (2/9/23). As it pertains to unexpectedly meeting your High School Math Teacher in your class, and how he made you laugh. I can only imagine the shenanigans taking place amongst you two in those Sessions. But its a small world out here brother. I’m impressed on your dedication to Yoga, you really take it serious. And that is definitely a good thing. Keep up the phenomenal work. And keep staying on your journey.
